Relic

The door to the office at MT mag around 2007. Memories!

Relaxing in So Cal

You can find me here this Sunday. This is always a great show. I won't have a booth, or anything cool, but I will be out there shooting pics and features. I'll also have Mind Of Macias Stickers!!! Looking forward to some .50 cent tacos.

See you there!

Pony Power

I think I'd rather own this mustang than a new car. They sure don't make cars like they used too. This thing just screams power. Id love to be a CEO of some big company and drive this thing daily.

What if....

You could go back in time and pick up a brand new mini? What would you get? I'd head straight to the Mitsu dealer, suprise, suprise, and pick up a 95 Mitsubishi Mighty Max Macro Cab Sport in black. I wish!

Mitsu Cover Shoot, behind the scenes

I don't have a whole lot to share lately because the last few weeks have been kind of slow.

I did however find these shots from when NR 1 was shot in the studio in October of 2002. The truck was later on the cover of Mini Truckin' Magazine on February of 2003. I remember the date of the shoot so vividly because I wanted the truck to debut at Octoberfest, the Severed Ties show that month but decided not to rush the truck and instead get it shot and debut it at Reso that year.

When I took this pic, the flash popped. I knew I was in trouble then lol

The story of how this truck got shot was actually pretty cool, especially since you always hear people complain that they can't get shot unless they're in a "big" club. Well it's nonsense. Mike Finnegan first approached me when my truck was in primer to shoot it. He told me he was a fan of Mitsus and wanted to know what I was going to do to it and when I would finish it. After me drooling and tell him a whole big ass story he told me to stay in contact with him and that he would shoot it when i finished it. That gave me a ton of motivation and withing weeks of that talk I pushed to finish it first by body dropping it. Later that year in September of 2001 my truck was in construction zone. At that time No Regrets was a single chapter club with only about 6 members. We were very unknown to say the least. Again, Mike told me to stay in contact with him and when I finished it he would get me a shoot. He never said cover, but I had my sights set on it. He told me Lance had a soft spot for Mitsus and would love to see it in the mag finished.

Months later I sent the truck to paint and kept the ball rolling, by chance I one day found out through a friend in Forbidden Fantasy that Lance was at a local shop where they were building the desert dragger. I decided to stop by and show him the truck with paint to see what he thought.

When Lance Martz first saw and asked me to shoot the truck it actually wasn't done. The truck was only painted, no interior, no chrome, no polish, nothing. He asked if he could shoot the truck and when would it be done. I told him I would probably finish it sometime in 2003. He chuckled and said if you can finish it in two weeks he'd put it on the cover that upcoming issue. I chocked and said yes. WTF was I thinking I thought to myself. What had I got myself into? With no time to spare I sent the truck to interior the next day, and gave them a timeline of 6 days to finish it. In the meantime I gathered up parts to get chromed or polished and painted. The interior guys ended up being a few days late, but who can blame them.

In the meantime I remember talking to one of the Editors on the phone when they called to check up on the progress and he said "If you had the chance to choose, what model would you pick for your cover shoot?" Quickly and without hesitation "Jamie Medeiros" I blurted out. "What are the chances?" he said. "That's who I got." Jamie had been on the cover with the previous Mitsu  in 2001. It was a yellow Mitsu built by the Chop Shop, one of my favorites of course.

9 days or so later we got the truck home. We took it all back apart, ripped all the suspension out and went to town detailing the shit out of it. Steve Wilk a good friend and member of No Regrets spent an entire week at the house cleaning it up, looming it and whatever else was necessary while I went to work. Eventually we got it done and just in time for the shoot. I have so many great memories from this shoot it's amazing. I remember pulling up to Mike Finnegan's house at about 5 am or so. He asked where we parked the trailer. "Trailer?" I said, what trailer lol. We drove the truck there, and he couldn't believe it. I remember following him to the shoot at the studio and dragging the truck a little bit on the 91,  I had to show off.

When we got to the studio I remember how amazing it was to me, a young mini trucker from so cal getting his unknown truck and club onto the cover of MT mag, it was incredible to me. To top things off Jamie was hotter in person than on the cover. As the photographer did his magic I remember pulling out a disposable camera where I was able to get a few shots off. The thing about this is it would later get Mike Finnegan in trouble and cause a bunch of problems for mini truckers in the future. Because of me, no more cameras were allowed in the studio for a really long time after. You see when I got home, I had the pictures developed and later popped one of these two shots on the net with the caption, coming soon. Word got back to Lance, and well, he was pissed. I got a call from Finnegan asking me to take them down. These days it's very common for owners to post shots of their trucks being shot, but back then it wasn't.

An interesting fact about my shoot is it was the first Digital Cover for Mini Truckin' Magazine, before that they were all shot on film. I wish I had more of these shots, but unfortunately I do not. Enjoy!

The outcome!

Kamm BMW 328 Coupe

It has opened a Pandora's box! BMW resurrect a piece of the story: The exclusive 328 Kamm coupe, part of the winners of the Mille Miglia 1940. With a classic model in the '40 Mille Miglia celebrates his resurrection. In short, a gem. One in whose reconstruction has worked three years. The score at the Mille Miglia in 1940 was a resounding success. Five cars were involved: three 328 roadster, a coupe version of the miracle of aerodynamics and German Touring Carozzeria - 328 Coupe Kamm, whose result was completely lost in 1953. After an unfortunate accident, the car was taken for scrap. They left behind only photos and memories, so it was not an easy job for the BMW engineers and designers to rebuild the model. And anyway, but even full-size! And for the party to be complete, the car will participate in the 2010 season Klass rally in Berlin.

CT 200h 2010 Lexus Geneva.  The first Lexus hatchback, CT 200h Lexus model, which will cross swords with the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series has been exposed to the world now officially less formal after exposure. CT 200h 2010 Lexus Geneva . CT Lexus 200h, Lexus surprise in Geneva in 2010, there is already a surprise for it was originally given away for a brochure in which the model presented in all its glory  and now even Lexus is officially introduced, quite succinctly. Derived from the LF-Ch concept, this model seems to retain an original prototype character, but from certain angles without somehow Toyota Auris. Compared to the hatchback May populist Lexus CT200h elevation is 4,320 mm in length, is longer by approx ,80 mm, but is considerably shorter than the Toyota Prius (140 mm). Compared with the main models that will rival, Lexus hatch is more "corpulent" having a width of 1,765 mm. and a height of 1430 has a wheelbase hatchback mm.For even considerably, 2.600 mm, which would translate into a spacious cabin. The transmission will be a continuous variable, called E-CVT. A European premiere for Lexus range and the introduction of the first platform is FWD (front wheel drive), which might go down a smaller SUV.  The launch will be registered in Geneva in 2010, Lexus opportunity to retain details of this dynamic model, yet having embargoed dynamic figures of the first Lexus hatchback.

Audi Sports Car RS5

The Audi RS5 made its world debut last month at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show and come complete with an uprated version of the 4.2-liter FSI V-8 from the RS4. The latest iteration of the sweet engine delivers 450 horsepower at 8,250 rpm and, between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm, transmits a maximum of 317.15 pound-feet of torque.
Audi RS5
The mighty engine is matched to a seven-speed S tronic dual clutch gearbox and a new center differential in the standard quattro all-wheel drive system. Together, the powertrain propels the coupe’s 3,803 pound kerb weight from 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds and sees it reach a top speed of 174 mph.
Despite the performance, the new RS5 has relatively good--for a performance car--fuel economy of 21.8 mpg for the European combined cycle.
Developed by quattro GmbH, the RS models comprise the dynamic spearhead of Audi's model range. The Audi RS5 is the latest torchbearer in a tradition dating back over 15 years to the RS2 Avant: superior handling in the mid-size class. A close relative of the V10 which powers the high-performance Audi R8 sports car, the high-revving V8 engine delivers its output from a displacement of 4,163 cm3. Like nearly every Audi gasoline engine, this one also operates via direct fuel injection known by the abbreviation FSI. This same technology has propelled the Audi R8 racing car to four triumphs at the classic endurance race in Le Mans. The common-rail system generates up to 120 bars of pressure.
Intensive fine-tuning of the dual-branch intake and exhaust system allows the undersquare engine to breathe freely; four adjustable camshafts and tumble flaps in the intake manifold facilitate mixture formation. The 4.2 FSI provides imposing torque and is right at home even at high revs - almost like a race engine. The engine delivers 331 kW (450 hp) at 8,250 rpm and - between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm - transmits a maximum of 430 Nm (317.15 lb-ft) of torque.
The vigorous strength, the spontaneous responsiveness, the joyful high-revving, and the throaty, sonorous music: this V8 produced by hand at Audi stunningly combines the essence of power and emotion. The 4.2 FSI propels the coupé's 1,725 kilograms (3,802.97 pounds) in 4.6 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62.14 mph) to an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph). Audi can increase that to 280 km/h (173.98 mph) upon request.
The RS 5 will ride on a lowered and stiffened suspension, and it most certainly will have a torque-vectoring rear differential similar to that which we recently sampled in the 2010 S5 cabriolet. Also look for an RS-specific calibration of the Audi Drive Select system that allows the driver to tailor steering effect, damping qualities, and transmission/throttle response to his or her tastes. We expect the RS 5 to make abundant use of lightweight materials such as aluminum, magnesium, and probably a conspicuous sprinkling of carbon fiber, á la BMW M3 coupe, as part of its ambitious plan to begin reducing vehicle mass across its model lineup and particularly among its performance cars.
A carbon design package is available for the engine compartment and, for the vehicle body, there are styling packages in black or matt aluminum look, including for the exhaust system, which can be fitted with black tailpipes. The new RS5 is scheduled to go on sale in Europe this July and previous spy shots of prototypes testing in the U.S. suggest the car will also be in local showrooms.
